What to Wear This August in Nashville - StyleBlueprint

As August approaches, Nashvillians are squeezing in that last vacation getaway, preparing for a new school year and coming to terms with the fact that summer is dwindling. As we try to balance fleeting summer styles with dreams of fall, we selected some ideal August events that will allow us to explore a bit of both: Food Truck Fridays at Arrington Vineyards, The Sunday Trading Post and Live on the Green.

In planning for a lineup of events that are all focused on simply soaking in all there is to eat, drink, shop and see in Nashville, we're focusing on styles that allow a lot of flexibility. As you jet from errands to a concert, or from work to plans with the family, fashion expert Cynthia Kelley has us covered. Here, she styled friends Celia Turner and Elizabeth Hawkins, who we photographed at Fat Bottom Brewing HopYard, which recently relocated to The Nations. Take a look at the fabulous looks chosen for these fun August events.

The Event: Food Truck Fridays at Arrington Vineyards

  • August 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2019
  • Elevated casual attire
  • Arrington Vineyards
  • 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Entry is free and open to all.

As if it wasn't already good enough to have wine and food trucks at the same event, this glorious gathering of bites and beverages happens every … single … week. Gather your pals and head to the sprawling grounds at Arrington Vineyards to enjoy free live music, food from Simply Living Life's mobile "Cottage" and a selection of rotating food trucks any (and potentially, every) weekend this August. Food Truck Fridays will soon become your easiest and most relaxing summer tradition yet!

What to Wear: If your evening forecast includes great eats and delicious wine, comfort is your best bet. But just because you're opting for comfort doesn't mean we won't fully embrace those electric summer colors. Though we've loved the midi-length dresses all season, a Friday picnic with wine practically begs you to sport a flowing ensemble. And don't forget to squeeze in those last few white jean wears before Labor Day (if that's how you roll).

The Event: The Sunday Trading Post

  • August 4, 2019
  • Market casual attire
  • Southern Grist Brewing Co.
  • 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Entry is free and open to all. Beer is only accessible to those 21+.

The first Sunday every month, The Nations invites you to The Sunday Trading Post. Celebrate all the gems of this happening area when you enjoy live music, sip local craft beer and cruise a selection of fresh produce, artisan goods, home decor and vintage clothing. Bring your friends, your kids, your pup and your love for this Nashville neighborhood event.

What to Wear: A visit to The Sunday Trading Post may not be the only event on your Sunday calendar, so look for anything that keeps you comfy as you pop around town. Whether you're heading to the grocery store or a dinner date afterward, continue to embrace those fun colors, prints and, of course, fabulous shades. And, despite the fact that a denim jacket might be wishful thinking for an August afternoon, we highly recommend you still pick one up. If not for the first weekend in August, snag yours for the cooler days ahead or even just when the air conditioning is set too low. We all know the feeling.

The Event: Live on the Green

  • August 15, 22; August 29-September 1, 2019
  • Concert casual
  • Public Square Park
  • Times vary. Find the schedule here.
  • General admission is free and open to tall. VIP tickets for single event and season passes are $75-$600.

Nashville's beloved free live music series is back, and you better believe we've been waiting. Live on the Green is the August festival that welcomes an incredible lineup of performers on two different stages as well as a huge selection of food vendors and an exceptional menu of brews. The concerts take place three Thursdays in August and the festivities come to a close during a jam-packed Labor Day weekend. Check out the lineup to start crafting your plans now.

What to Wear: If you're committing to an evening (or weekend) of concert-going, it's crucial that you are strategic with your chosen styles. For the long afternoons, stay cool in a great pair of denim cutoffs and a blouse or dress with ample breathability. We love a great retro tee (a Disco Cowgirl one if you really want to be specific) and a great rocking print. Some fun sunglasses are absolutely essential to finish your looks, and then you're instantly ready to groove in downtown Nashville this August!

Curlfest 2019 Brings Old School Skate Party to Prospect Park - Brooklyn Reader

Posted: 25 Jul 2019 10:51 AM PDT

Curlfest, a beautiful, bold celebration of natural hairstyles, returns with a throwback skate party to Prospect Park's LeFrak Center on Sunday, July 28.

You may wonder what is happening with the main event that has been drawing thousands of natural beauties from all over the world to Central Brooklyn since its launch in 2014? Unfortunately, this year's gathering will not take place in Prospect Park but is moving to Randall's Island.

Festival-goers will still get to experience attractions and activities such as a beauty row where attendees can stock up on beauty goodies from the biggest beauty brands; a market place featuring fashion, jewelry and accessories from vendors from around the country; as well as music, dance and food. The festival will also continue to draw attention to the global trend of women embracing their natural beauty and the importance of unity in the community — just not in our beautiful borough.

Still, Brooklynites who do not want to take a ferry over to the island can close out the Curlfest weekend with Sunday's old school skate party. Recommend attire includes bamboo earrings, neon tights and Run DMC glasses to party in style.
